I want a Scottish Terrier…wheaten!

Big Dog | August 26th, 2010

There is quite a big misunderstanding among a lot of people, who think that the wheaten Scottish Terrier is different breed, whereas it is an accepted color of the same one. It is quite rare, as usually the lighter colors are recessive in genetics. This article stands here to tell you the facts that there IS a purebred wheaten Scottish Terrier.

  1. I’m glad you made this post. We have always received questions about our wheaten Lollie. Most commonly people assume she is a Westie, and are surprised when we tell them she is a wheaten. One thing people should be aware of is that not all wheatens are the same. In the AKC registry, accepted colorations include silver wheatens, and red wheatens. The reds, have more of a tawny, golden hue to them whereas the silver is a pure white. Our Lollie is a silver and literally shimmers in the sun light. In the end it’s a personal preference thing, but People should be aware that there are alternatives.

  2. As a breeder of Scotties I can relate to this article. I have a lot of families
that contact me and dont understand the wheaten color in Scotties. Thy think that Scotties are only black because that’s all that is publicized in the media.
    Thanks for posting this article.
